Ann Balzac Keane’s career in art began with no formal training, only a simple vision to fill the blank walls of her home. Over twenty years later, Keane has become an accomplished painter with a dedicated following of collectors and clients who appreciate her abstract works. “I am inspired by the natural world around me,” she explains from the screened porch of her Mt. Pleasant, SC home overlooking Charleston’s picturesque harbor. “I love colors and shapes that I see outside and try to make them come alive on my canvas.” Keane paints largely in oil. “I use a palette knife to carve lines and shapes to construct a canvas full of movement,” she says. “I love to build up layers of paint so that just a sliver of the original color peeks through. The blueprint of the landscape is secondary to the placement of the blocks of color.” In addition to the visual beauty around her, Ann’s art is music driven. “The sense of movement in my art is influenced by music – it’s an essential element of my process. Moving while I paint keeps the energy flowing,” says Keane. http://annbalzackeane.blogspot.com
